Input needed

We are quite the bookworm family. Joe prefers picture books, I prefer the British classics and Madeline will read anything I bring home from the library.

Now, while I'm thrilled she chooses books over toys, it means I read these books over and over again. So I'm always hunting for books that appeal to my inner child and entertain me as well as Madeline.

Books like "How Does a Dinosaur Go to School?" and "How Does a Dinosaur Say Goodnight?." I find these books very humorous and Madeline wants to read them about 30 times a day (no exaggeration).

I'm not complaining; I love reading to her. But let's just say I'm no longer begging the question, "My dear sweet child, how does a dinosaur go to school? Let's find out together!"

So if any of you have any recommendations for some stellar books, I would sure appreciate it.

Someday by Allison McGhee (tear jerker). Even if she doesn't get it at this age, she will soon. It's worth buying.

Erin is into the lift-the-flap books w/ the Fisher Price kids.

Oh, Someday makes me cry every time I read it. I haven't read it in awhile because I scared Madeline last time. :)

I personally find the Pigeon books by Mo Willems to be very entertaining. (Don't let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, etc.)

Also, the Skippy Jon Jones' books can be pretty funny, but only if you can do a good spanish accent for the little Chihuahua's alter ego: El Skippito. (I don't, but my kindergartners were entertained.)

As a mother, one of my favorite's is The Snuggliest Snuggles but I don't remember who the author is.

However, even with my love of books, I'm still working on getting Kenna to look at the books not just eat them. :)

I personally enjoy Dr. Seuss. Except for Hop on Pop. There's just really no plot in that one. And of course that would be my little Noah's favorite. I guess there's no accounting for taste.

Steph, I'll have to look into the Pigeon series. I haven't even heard of it! Thanks!

Kristen, I bet Noah is saying the same thing about you... :)

Katie, I'm so excited about this new blog of yours :) I love reading your thoughts...yeah, that could be creepy but you know what I mean girl :) Anyway, good books..let's see...Obviously "Good Night Moon" is a classic, "Brown bear, Brown bear, what do you see?" is good, and once Madeline gets older "Mean Jean the Recess Queen" is cute and funny :)

The Olivia series by Ian Falconer is one of my favorites as well as the Toot and Puddle series by Holly Hobbie. Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type and Giggle, Giggle, Quack by Doreen Cronin are quite entertaining too. Gigi God's Little Princess is really cute. (I'm not usually impressed by Christian published books but this one has really nice illustrations and is well written.)

We have "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late", its fun.

Oh, you wonderful young mothers! It won't matter after the second child. Teach the first to read and they will read to the other munchkins...or pretend to read.

Diapers--what fond memories. One advantage to my years of cloth diapers - do I hear the gasps?? - was that they couldn't quite get those pins off the triple diaper layers that went on before bed. My kids walk funny to this day because of wearing three diapers to bed at night!

And speaking of diapers, do you know I now miss that aspect of parenting (sometimes) compared to how messy things can get when they are older? All stages are great, but do enjoy these days because it doesn't get any more simple than this right now.

Bless you all!

Okay...since my family HATES to read and my mom WASN'T a first grade teacher I have NO recommendations for books. :P Sadly, most of them are for slightly older kids, but I think Madeline might be entertained nonetheless because of the FABULOUS illustrations!! Okay here goes:

"Piggie Pie" & "Zoom Broom." - HILARIOUS. You will get a kick out of old fairy tale references and Madeline will LOVE the colorful pages!!

Pretty much any Steven Kellogg (sp?) illustrated book. He rocks. My favorite is "The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash."

Also I would definitely check out the reading rainbow website: http://pbskids.org/readingrainbow/books
They have this awesome list of books which I'm sure has some for Madeline and you! :)
