This is me, trying not to be random

For the unveiling of the new blog, I thought I would write an "about me" post to compliment the tiny one in the sidebar. (Because, ya know, an entire Web site devoted to and written by me isn't enough...)

Some of my favorite blogs create "100 things about me" lists which are always entertaining so I thought I'd try.

Below is my attempt. I only got to #25 before realizing how incredibly random and uninformative it was.

Exhibit A: What happens when Katie writes in stream-of-consciousness and why she MUST edit her own writing
  1. I'm slightly obsessed with all things British.
  2. I believe Americans should reinstate tea time and the tradition of wearing big, floppy hats at weddings.
  3. If you are getting married and would like your guests to wear hats, please invite me. You would fulfill a lifelong dream.
  4. I have never been outside the USA and Canada.
  5. My dream trip would, of course, be England.
  6. I love reading the classic novels over and over, such as books by Austen, Bronte, Wharton and Forster.
  7. However, my all-time favorite book is contemporary: "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers.
  8. I believe every woman should read that book.
  9. And I like Harry Potter. Probably more than an adult should.
  10. My daughter is the joy of my heart.
  11. I would do 10 labors in a row to avoid the nine months of pregnancy with my next child.
  12. That might be an exaggeration.
  13. No, that was not an announcement that I'm pregnant.
  14. If given the choice between avocados and cheesecake, I will pick avocados every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
  15. I love tea and coffee equally.
  16. Except fruit teas. Strongly dislike fruit teas.
  17. I laugh really loudly and a lot.
  18. I used to be very self-conscious of my loud, frequent laugh.
  19. I don't really care any more.
  20. Calvin and Hobbes still makes me laugh out loud.
  21. Joe makes me laugh every day and I'm grateful for that.
  22. I have a very hard time referring to females my age as "women." I feel too young for that.
  23. This is probably because I picture a 60-year-old female when I hear "woman."
  24. I carry around a huge Mom Wallet, containing a checkbook, coupons, library summer reading program cards, my errand to-do list, etc.
  25. Maybe I am old enough to be a woman.

If only I'd known to include an insert in your wedding invitation to OUR wedding! :) I'd give away my favorite pair of shoes to see you in a floppy British hat - like in Three Men and a Lady!

About the blogs...I have no idea how I find them! I found lots of scotts through a fried when we first got married and started reading her blog. I loved how HILARIOUS the stories of her triplets were and that she seemed to offer wise Christian counsel about mothering. I found a few of the others through her links etc. Crazy how I don't know the people who write over half of the blogs I read!!! :) Who knew the internet could be so awesome! ;)

Ditto on the hat desire ;) I bought a widebrim straw hat for the summer which I refer to as my "garden hat". I do not have a garden. I did wear it all over Asheville, N. Carolina though...(I told everyone it was b/c it was so sunny and I have a "delicate complexion" but really I just wanted to wear my hat.) ;) I say - get one. Wear it.

Ooooh - I just got the best hat from the Anthropologie sale rack (my favorite place to shop) that I would love to wear at a wedding. Instead, I wore it to the fair on Friday.

And, regarding Forster, have you read On Beauty by Zadie Smith? It's based on Howard's End, one of my favorite books of all time. On Beauty offers a really interesting perspective on being human. Or at least that's what I think.

Katie- I think you may well be my long-lost sister! I, too, am in raptures with the English. Ahh, I wish I had an accent like Kate Winslet.

I attempted to throw a full English tea party this Spring with savories and scones and lovely hats and lace table cloths, but my tried and true American friends had absolutely no interest!
