Day Three :: Back in America

This morning started on the wrong side of bright and early. By wrong side, I mean a certain girl needed more sleep but Madeline insisted I wake up.

It was difficult to get up because I couldn't fall asleep until 4 a.m. last night. The silver lining was that I got to watch quality E! shows like "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," "Kendra" and "True Hollywood Story: Bethenny Frankel."

I refuse to let little facts (like never previously seeing a Bethenny Frankel show) limit my enjoyment of solid late-late-night TV watching.

But come morning, I had the promise of a McDonald's breakfast before me so I was able to get up and kissed Joe good-bye as he headed off to his work thing. Then Madeline and I went through the drive-through in our pajamas and headed back to the hotel. She declared that it would be "SO SO AWESOME" to eat in the hotel bed and watch PBS and who am I to deny a child's dream?

After a gripping episode of "Clifford," we changed into our swimsuits for a way too early morning swim. We tried to swim last night but the evening shall be forever known as "The Great Pool Lock Down Debacle of 2011."

The pool was supposed to be open until 11 p.m. but the door was locked when we arrived at 9 p.m. Joe asked the front desk to unlock it, the lady said she'd be "right down" but 20 minutes later, we were still waiting. So I went to the front desk where she assured me they would come down. Ten minutes later, we promised Madeline she could go swimming in the morning if we could just go back up to the room.

Which is why I found myself looking absolutely ridiculous in a non-maternity but two sizes too big swimsuit at 8 a.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I can't imagine a future scenario when I will be more grateful to swim alone than today.

We left at 9 a.m. to head back to Indianapolis. (I wasn't lying when I said it was a quick trip.) When Madeline recognized Fishers and knew we were close to home, she asked, "Are we back in America?"

Clearly we need to leave Indianapolis more often.

Today was an absolutely beautiful fall day so Madeline and I packed lunches when Joe took off for work and we headed to the park. I wanted to get some writing done but I couldn't move much past the fact that I have a 7-year-old girl's love of hot pink.

Then it was an epic nap time. Not for me because I was extremely tired and was sure Madeline wouldn't sleep too long and then I would be completely out-of-sorts for taking a short nap and start doing crazy pregnant-tired things like throwing frozen soup in the washer and wet swimsuits in a pot.

No, of course, Madeline had an epic nap time of sleeping three hours while I propped my eyelids open with toothpicks.

IT'S LIKE SHE KNOWS.

So I made it a goal to stay awake until at least 9 p.m. so I wouldn't wake up unnecessarily early. Thankfully I don't have a Forever Lazy otherwise I just know I would be super comfy and asleep by 6 p.m.

I saw this commercial last night and need to add "zippered hatches" to my Christmas list.

who *doesn't* need a zippered hatch?

that commercial. those people.

and how adorable that Madeline thinks she left America -- you're right, you should hold back on Disney until she's emotionally ready to handle it.
