ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Katie.

Taking a picture of just me makes me twitchy. Which leads to pictures like this.

My blog's name came from one of my favorite quotes, "Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body." (It's by Elizabeth Stone.)

I was born and raised in Indianapolis. I'm still here because I love this city. It's as awesome as a city can be without an IKEA.

At the end of my freshman year in college, I met a guy named Joe. One week later, I told my friend Bridget that I wanted to marry someone just like him.

Two years later, we got hitched. I still can't believe I am his and he is mine.

One year later, we found out a little person was growing inside of me.

Two days after she was born, we finally named her Madeline Jane.

She came loaded with a big personality.

 I have absolutely no idea where that personality came from.

She changed our lives for the best and makes us laugh every single day.

Four years and many prayers later, we were gifted with Caleb Lamont.

He makes me realize everyone was right: there's just something wonderful about boys.

On Friday nights, you might find us stuffing kids down our shirts...

...or playing Fancy Hats Uno. But I promise, there's nowhere else I'd rather be.

I used to work in non-profit public relations. Now I stay home with my kids and write my student loan checks while playing dress-up, cooking mac and cheese, homeschooling and participating in dance parties that make rock stars jealous.

I wear myself out to make my kids' childhoods special. Apparently, they will remember none of my effort.

I love my husband and I live to see him to walk through the door at 5:20 p.m.

We went to Disney World once. It was an epic disaster and I almost couldn't bring myself to blog it. But Madeline remembers it being awesome and that is all that matters. (Part one, part two, part three, part four.)

Even though my life isn't a Pinterest board, I blog the fluffy, happy stuff because I believe the crime isn't that our kids grow up but that we can't remember our days with them.

So one time I wrote down literally everything I did in one day. If you've ever wondered what a stay-at-home mom does, here you go.

I don't watch daytime TV but love Judge Judy more than I can express (and mention her in too many blog posts to link to).

But most importantly, I am blessed.

Not by the things I have or even the amazing people in my life but because I am loved by a wonderful and forgiving God and there's nothing I can do to change that.
